A
veteran artist is eyeing Destin as her new source of inspiration.
Vickie Singletary, a native of Lake Charles, La., visited the area
recently in search of a second home where she can live a few months
out of the year and paint -her inspiration being the area's natural
beauty.
Singletary, 53, started painting when she was a child and continued
into her 20s. After college, she put her brushes away for 28 years
until April 2002.
Since then, she has completed 30 paintings and 4 commissioned pieces.
According to her biography, her original masterpieces have caught
the eyes of private collectors, including those in Sweden and London.
She considers her style to be impressionistic with a modern flair
and has developed many influences from her travels throughout the
United States, Caribbean Islands, Mexico, Italy, France and England.
Her work will be on display Nov. 1-2 at Mattie Kelly Fine Arts Festival.
"Never give up on your dreams," Singletary said. "Even
after 28 years, they can come true."
